See what your other devices changed here
Use this guide to find out what happened on this computer while you were not looking: files another of your devices deleted here, conflicts, a device added or removed, a folder this computer now syncs or no longer syncs. What you do yourself on this computer is not listed: you already know about it.
Before you start
- This device is set up (see Set up your first device or Add a device).
Read the history
- Open Tressyl and click the History tab.
- The newest entries come first, grouped by day, with the local time of each one.
- An entry for deleted files says how many there were and which device deleted them. Click the “Show the … files” button under it to list them, and Hide the files to fold them again.
- At the bottom, Show older lists older entries.
For a large deletion, the history keeps the names of the first 50 files only; the entry says how many more there were.
If deleted files should not have been deleted, look in the folder’s .tressyl-versions folder on your devices: when versioning is on, the previous versions of synced files are kept there.
What is kept, where, and for how long
- The history stays on this computer only: it is never sent to your other devices, and each device keeps its own.
- It is saved in Tressyl’s private folder (
~/.local/share/tressyl/on Linux), readable by your account only. It holds file names and which folders and devices they concern. - Entries older than 90 days are removed, and at most 2 000 entries are kept: the oldest go first.
- If Tressyl has to rebuild its index (after damage), the history starts again empty.
Clear the history
- In the History tab, click Clear history.
- Confirm with Clear history, or click Cancel to keep it.
Clearing changes none of your files, and your other devices keep their own history.
Turn the history off or on
- Open Tressyl and click the Settings tab.
- Untick Keep a history of what my other devices change here to turn it off: the history is cleared at once and nothing more is recorded. Tick it again to turn it back on.
The setting is saved in ~/.config/tressyl/tressyl.conf as TRESSYL_HISTORY=false (or true).
If something goes wrong
If Tressyl says This setting could not be changed, or clearing fails, look up the error code in the error reference.
