Features
Tressyl is in beta: what is marked Beta works today, in a pre-release version. What is marked Planned does not exist yet.
Folders and sync modes
- Beta Each device chooses how it syncs each folder:
- Send and receive: changes go both ways (the usual choice);
- Send only: changes made on this device are sent, changes made elsewhere are not applied here;
- Receive only: changes made elsewhere are applied here, changes made on this device are not sent.
- Planned On demand: files are downloaded only when you open them.
See Add a folder.
Your devices
- Beta Your devices share one identity, protected by your passphrase.
- Beta A new device joins with a one-time code, on the same network or by IP address. All your other devices then trust it.
- Beta From any of your computers, you choose which device keeps which folder.
- Beta A lost or stolen device is removed from another one: it then receives nothing new.
See Add a device and Manage your devices.
Everyday use
- Beta A real app on Linux and Windows: native windows and folder pickers, an icon in the notification area, and an optional start when you log in.
- Beta When the same file was changed on two devices, Tressyl keeps both versions, notifies you, and lets you choose one in the app.
- Beta A History tab shows what your other devices changed on this computer.
- Beta Tressyl runs for your user account only, never as a system service shared by every user of the computer.
- Beta Installed from a
.debor.rpmpackage on Linux, and an installer for your account on Windows.
See Settle a conflict and See what your other devices changed here.
Network and self-hosting
- Beta Your devices find each other on the local network, or by IP address, a VPN included.
- Beta To connect from anywhere, you can point Tressyl at relay and discovery services you run on your own server. No public server is used by default.
- Planned The always-on node runs these relay and discovery services itself.
How your devices and connections are protected: see Security.
Always-on Linux node (LXC)
- Beta A headless Linux container, always on, that keeps a copy of your folders in Receive only mode, as a backup.
- Planned An encrypted copy of that backup on remote storage, with rclone crypt.
Coming next
- Planned Android: upload your photos, and browse the files of your other devices from your phone.
- Later iOS.
